Post-doctoral Position in Climate Data Mining
The Autonomous Control & Information Technology (ACIT) Center, located in the Inter-
Disciplinary Research Center (IRC) at NC A&T State University, invites applications for a fulltime,
post-doctoral research fellow position in climate data mining. The candidate will work on
developing novel data mining algorithms for large-scale (terabytes) climate record data and will
be working with both undergraduate and graduate students in a mentoring role. The candidate
will enjoy a dynamic and collaborative working environment.
A significant component of the candidate's position will be to apply statistical data fusion to a large volume of historical data. The candidate must be knowledgeable in the following areas:
- working with large data sets, especially weather and heterogeneous hurricane data
- data mining and fusion using learning and statistical techniques for weather- and climate related problems, i.e., classification, clustering of visual objects for retrieval and prediction
- Bayesian Networks and Approximate Framework for PDF estimation on MODIS imagery data
- Computational statistics
- statistically significant learning
Candidate qualifications:
- Recent Ph.D. in computer science specialized in data mining with a proven track record of performing and publishing original, high-impact research
- Experience in mining large-scale data
- US citizen or permanent resident preferred
The job position is available immediately. Salary is commensurate with experience. The
successful candidate must have a recent Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field.
The position is awarded initially for a two-year period and may be renewed for a third year. Applications will be accepted immediately. Interested individuals should send the following as part of their application package:
- letter of interest
